    Straw bale gardening

Has anyone tried it? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance.

Here in Arkansas I would run my well dry trying to keep straw bales cool and damp. Even large containers are a challenge.

I tried it last year. It works so-so. I planted about 8 bales with stuff.

It took forever for it to take off, but when it did it was loaded with tomatoes and peppers and pumpkins. It grew until a hard freeze>>>>>when it got colder I would cover it at night and it continued to bear until about the middle of November. Even when it was a hard freeze, I found lots of tomatoes still there and safe under the pile of leaves that had gathered from a tree and weeds and stuff.

It was Okay. The problem is the weeds it let in it's wake>>>>>LOTS of them!
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."Theodore Roosevelt-1907.
